Leather sofa care guide
Leather sofa care
Leather sofas are an increasingly popular choice for homes as they not only look stylish, but are easy-to-clean and require little maintenance. Leather behaves different to fabric and gets better with age, but there are a few small things you can do to maintain its natural beauty for many years to come.
During the first few weeks of use, you might notice some stretching, creasing and wrinkling – but don’t panic, this is completely normal and enhances the natural beauty of the leather.
At House of Fraser – Sofas, Furniture and Flooring, we use four main types of leathers to create our stylish sofas, these are;Aniline leather
Aniline leather receives minimal coating or surface finish, retaining the natural look and feel of the leather due to the way it has been tanned and dyed. The main characteristics are natural markings, over time adapting a beautiful ‘lived in look’. As this type of leather is minimally treated, you may notice some shading variations between panels and the original swatch from which you made your purchase.Corrected and pigmented leather
If you are looking for leather that is incredibly easy to care for, corrected and pigmented leather could be the ideal choice for you. With pigment applied directly to the surface, this is dyed leather which makes natural characteristics less visible and in turn making it easier to maintain.Nubuck and suede leather
Nubuck leathers are buffed on the outside to roughen the surface, whereas suede is buffed on the inside of the leather, showing a velvet-like nap. Both are finished with zero surface coating, therefore over time they are easily flattened and soiled on the surface.Antiqued leather
One of the main characteristics of antiqued leather is a stylish, two-tone effect with shading variations between the top colour and base. Over time more of a lighter hue will show through, predominantly on the areas that get more use (e.g. seat cushions and armrests).Regular TLC
- Use a clean, damp cloth regularly to remove any build-up of dust or dirt
- Quickly take care of any spills by wiping away the excess with a damp cloth, followed by a soft dry cloth to buff afterwards
- We would recommend using only House of Fraser approved cleaning products to avoid affecting your statutory rights and guarantee.
